About Me
My name is Natalie, and Soft Memory Studio grew from a long thread of love for fashion, craftsmanship, and the garments that hold our most personal memories.
I learned to sew as a child at my grandmother Irma’s side. She made all my Halloween costumes, stitched with care and imagination, and passed down a reverence for handwork that has never left me. As I got older, I began reselling her vintage clothing collections online, falling in love with the feel of old textiles and the integrity of well-made garments.
The idea for this “activist atelier” came after I lost a black cashmere sweater that I wore almost every day in my early 20s living in San Francisco. It wasn’t just a sweater - it was a second skin, a witness to my becoming. I couldn’t find anything that matched its shape, softness, or feeling, so I set out to recreate it from scratch. Soft Memory Studio was born from that impulse: to honor what was loved and lost, to remake with care, and to offer heirloom pieces that carry memory in every thread.
Horrified by fast fashion and the state of thrifting these days, I am fully committed to doing this slowly; working one-on-one with each link in the design, supply, and production chain(s), and trying to stay onshore as much as possible.
